Crank Masters Kananaskis ITT

Did the first race of the season on Sunday. Man what a crazy course. It was hard to get a good rhythm going because of the onslaught of rollers and hills. I did about as good as I expected 32:39 for the 20km course. The Trek Equinox TTX 9.5 is a superb machine. It truly feels fast with the Hed Jet 60 front and Hed Disc rear despite my lacking engine. The bike felt so smooth over rough road sections. I could hardly even feel any changes in the road surface. The TTX is so much smoother compared to my road bike which is not OCLV. Not to mention way stiffer in the bottom bracket. I haven’t ridden many other carbon road bikes but just the difference between Trek TCT and OCLV frames is astounding (aka cheap vs expensive).

team

I met up with Keith, Trev, Alex, Rod, Rob, Mike  and  Mark for a healthy jaunt around south of Calgary. Awesome ride on some new terrain. Was cool to get out with some more of the team.

Check out the route: (Roughly 140km)

(Excuse the straight line coming out of Bragg creek…forgot to turn the gps back on)

Chiropractic delisted from Alberta Health Care

Posted: April 8th, 2009 | Author: Thomas | Filed under: Sustainable Living | Tags: , , , | No Comments »

The Alberta Government issued a media release announcing funding for chiropractic services will be delisted early this summer. In a direct conversation with Dr. Mills, the Honourable Ron Liepert, Minister of Health and Wellness clearly indicated that there was an overwhelming show of support for chiropractic, but the decision was solely budget driven.

I am a budget minded person I can understand needing to allocate funds appropriately. The question I ask though…

WHY WERE ALBERTA HEALTH CARE PREMIUMS CUT?

WTF? If money to support Alberta Health Care was an issue, why did the Government get rid of premiums that all Albertans have been quite used to paying for some time.  When the Government announced the demise of AHC premiums and the populous rejoiced,  I had a sinking feeling in my gut that this was just the first step in the fall of our health care system, and a giant leap towards USA style “No care”. Nothing is for free.

I know for myself and many people,  chiropractic care is a means to live well and reduce our burden on the medical system. Taking control of our health by the model of preventative health care and wellness rather than the  growing model of  symptomatic “Sick Care”  plaguing our society.

For me it’s not so much an issue of money, but more about principle. Not being mutually exclusive, both speak loudly about each other.
