Got out for a great ride on Saturday Morning. Met up with Craig, Dallas, Jeff, Ken, Jon and eventually Lachlan for a wind blasted prairie adventure to Water Valley.
Craig took Kyle and myself on this route a few weeks back, but I just uploaded it the other day. Nice low traffic gravel roads with great scenic views of Alberta’s rolling terrain.
We had amazing weather, plus temps and bone dry roads. The terrain in these parts is like nothing I have seen before. To summarize….”A ton of climbing”. The rain forest and ocean views are surreal. I caught myself oohing and ahhing around every corner. What an awesome time. We topped 500+ km over the 4 days. It was a great get away with great riding and company.
Just finshed doing a VO2Max test at the human performance lab UofC. I’m participating in a study of an Prototype Adidas full body suit designed for sprinters (running). They want to see if the same benefits translate to cyclist while wearing the suit. I haven’t seen this “suit” yet but I keep picturing some kind of rubber bondage getup. I hope the don’t gag me.
Anyway the vo2max test was somewhat disapointing when compared to a test I did 2 years ago. The test I did tonight was about 3 minutes longer so maybe fatigue played a factor… No I’m probably just fat and slow right now. I certainly feel fat and slow right now. Oh well should be interesting to participate and become a statistic for some kind of fancy space suit.
The pic is pretty much what my vision is like at the moment.
The “Race the Ring” 30km ITT went off this Saturday without a hitch. The weather was ripe with rain, snow, hail, and sun in regular Calgary style. “Chapeau” to all the volunteers who braved the weather and helped make this event a real success.
I met up with Keith, Trev, Alex, Rod, Rob, Mike and Mark for a healthy jaunt around south of Calgary. Awesome ride on some new terrain. Was cool to get out with some more of the team.
Check out the route: (Roughly 140km)
(Excuse the straight line coming out of Bragg creek…forgot to turn the gps back on)
My training plan said to do a 3 hour ride zone 4-5 or do a C priority race today. So I figured what the heck I’ll join Trev, Stephen, Alex and Simon for a spin around north and west of Calgary. Well I definitely got what I came for. Anaerobics anybody?. I’m not sure what I was thinking as these guys are all of a different caliber of fitness than I, a.k.a. “way more fit”. Anyway I got dragged around the country side like that damn yo-yo that sometimes doesn’t come back up. Very cool of the guys to put up with my weak ass for the duration, much appreciated.
As you will see in the map below, my heart almost exploded along several stretches. For comparison sake my lactate threshold is about 167bpm. Here is how I spent my time today:
Zone 1: Recovery 13.26min
Zone 2: Aerobic 54.2min
Zone 3: Tempo 32.96min
Zone 4: SubThreshohold 54.61min
Zone 5A: SuperThreshold 19.28min
Zone 5B: Aerobic Capacity 25.63min
Zone 5C: Anaerobic capacity 22.71min
All pain and suffering aside, it was a good time and I’m sure I will reap some gains from it. But for the mean time I’m completely shattered, over and way way out.
